Sea Max Fishing Seat Box & Rucksack - Dual Strap!

Sea Max Fishing Seat Box Rucksack / Dual Strap

Ok - let's start by getting the blatantly obvious out of the way.  This Sea Max fishing seat box is advertised for "sea fishing" however, this is definitely something any coarse angler can use.  With its' bright yellow exterior, you are sure to be noticed by other anglers and road users without any problems whatsoever.

For all those who know me, they know how much I love pockets & storage.  My "bivvy" has pockets, my fishing chair (when I'm not pole fishing) has pockets and even my jacket has multiple pockets.  The seat box from Sea Max really delivers with its rucksack offering 3 external zip pockets and an open netted drawstring pocket suitable for a single size 70 fishing reel or drinks bottle etc.

The fun really doesn't stop there!  The hard wearing ABS plastic fishing box comes complete with a thin yet comfortable seat cushion to protect your derriere.  The dual strap carrying rucksack can be disconnected using the plastic clips meaning you can keep the waterproof pockets away from the waters edge.

Adding to the list of supplied accessories are a set of 4 internal tackle boxes to keep your hooks, weights, floats or even fly fishing flies.  The lightweight box is great for anglers who like to stalk their fish weighing in at only 2.4kg (5.2lb).

The foam seat is a comfortable 10mm / 1cm padded foam cover which can be removed if you prefer to use an alternative thicker tackle box cushion. -but this really depends on the type of fishing.  For example, sea anglers will most likely be up and down more often than coarse fishermen.

Comfortable Carrying

I feel one of the greatest features about this fishing box is the ability to carry it over both shoulders like any normal rucksack and distributing the weight evenly.    The strong adjustable 600D RipStop nylon carrying straps will quite easily take the weight of a few reels, rigs and bait without a problem whilst getting you to your peg/rock/bank without breaking a sweat (or your back).

The maximum weight this seat box supports is 20st / 127kg / 280lb / 270 cans of lager

Compared to the other beginner seat boxes I've reviewed, I really feel the dual-straps are an incredible addition that would be easier to manage than the classic "over 1 shoulder" strap often used by other manufacturers.

However, if you don't quite fancy carrying the seat box across 2 shoulders - just remove the outer bag and use the single seat box strap which comes pre-attached.

Storage, Storage, Storage

All anglers like every bit of extra storage they can get, and this box really checks all the boxes.  Not only does the exterior rucksack have multiple pockets, the lid once opened is divided into 2 sections with 4 built in storage compartments built directly into the roof and 7 internal storage sections suitable for every bit of tackle you would need.

The external dimensions of this monster of a tackle box are:

  • 38cm width
  • 23cm depth
  • 37cm height

Which is a little smaller than the other seat boxes I have currently reviewed.

Is it worth the money?

Coming in at under £50 (price correct as of September 2022), this tackle box is really nice and is packed with features that any angler will absolutely love.  If you're into sea or fly fishing where being mobile is key - then this tackle box seat is the perfect choice for you.  For those of us who spend most of our time sat in the same position, the seat cushion may need to be upgraded to ensure complete comfort.

The option to carry using a single or double strap is a really nice touch and I can think of many fishing locations where I would have loved this style of seat box over the one that I took (haunting memories of the River Trent springs to mind!).

I've added this into the beginners section of my website for the pure reason that it's very well priced.  The smaller size is perfectly suitable for young anglers and would make a great gift if you're trying to encourage your grandchildren to start fishing.

The bright yellow colour is not personally "my thing", and makes me wonder if it would spook the fish (fish can see similar colours to humans - source) if it's sat on a fishing peg.  However, with the majority of the yellow being covered by your legs once your seated, I don't think it's a huge problem  (f you blank - then blame the box).

The only thing I feel is missing are some side trays to store bait etc.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by this versatile seat box, it's a bargain at £44.99 (checked on the 13th September 2022) and comes with so much storage it seems silly not to add it to your collection.

Update 1 day after posting this review!

Swimming round the Amazon marketplace I stumbled across this exact same seat box but aimed at coarse fishing anglers!  The box has all the same great features as the one above, but comes in green!

My initial doubts about the bright yellow colour have been completely justified as they felt the need to release an army green replica!
